The face painting took about 30 minutes to do- mostly because the humid air was slowing down the paint drying. Driving to the dance I think startled a bunch of native Dahlonega folks.

The Georgia Mountains Master Gardeners are hosting Joel Hitt as speaker for their March 9, 2015 meeting. Mr. Hitt’s talk is entitled “The Curious Calling to Garden in the Woods”. The meeting is open to the public and will be at 7 PM , March 9 at the Lumpkin County Parks and Recreation Center, 365 Riley Road, Dahlonega. Light refreshments will be served.
Joel Hitt is a Georgia Master Gardener, serving on the Georgia Master Gardeners’ Association Board as well as the Georgia Botanical Society Board and the Georgia Ornithological Society Board. He is a frequent speaker at Master Gardener training classes as well as garden clubs and botanical groups and a regular contributor of articles to the Georgia Mountain Laurel Magazine and the Georgia Master Gardener Association’s publication The Scoop. He is an avid gardener and bird watcher who enjoys sharing his experiences with other gardeners and bird enthusiasts around the Southeast. As a member of the Headwaters Master Gardeners, he is heavily involved in Rabun County’s Sustainable Mountain Living initiative which works to engage Rabun county residents in food gardening and providing food to the needy. His topic, “The Curious Calling to Garden in the Woods” is the story of the adventure he and his wife have had trying to “live in the woods of Rabun County without interfering in the processes of nature while gardening in concert with nature and with respect for the forest.” The Lumpkin County community is looking forward to Mr. Hitt’s presentation on gardening in the woods. Please join us for what promises to be an entertaining and informative evening. This hand knitted hat takes days to create & has been a favorite in our shop for years. Now see it on a fan in this news clip. He is the young man being interviewed. http://www.nbcnews.com/watch/cnbc/star-wars-celebration-in-ca-429204035543
I'll be going to the 2015 Friends Conference at the end of this month & was asked to make a centerpiece for the event. Here is a quick animated gif showing it!
Far from a perfect Christmas season- it is rainy & thundering today. But I thought I would share the open house that the Dahlonega Gold Museum had back on Dec 7th. Over 250 people came on in & many spent quite a bit of time asking about clothing in the 1860's which is how we were dressed. Because our town dates to around 1830 a great deal of history has happened here (well for a non-coastal area). Our Gold Museum is a great place to see a bit of history and for open house this Dec 7th you will get to see a couple of people dressed up from the 1860's. Hear some great stories and admire a new display!
Here in Dahlonega it is pretty hard for the kids to Trick or Treat in the county. So we have Trick or Treating in the square. The merchants (even the ones that do not have a business on the square) set up tables and give treats to our kids. This was early on and the Kids were not quite out yet. The Dahlonega Gold Museum holds a costume contest and as 'the best dressed' volunteer at the museum I had the chance to be the judge this year. This is my 'regular' Ghost tour dress- but I made & painted the skeleton gloves, skeleton 'shirt' and spent 2 hours on makeup to pull off the look. Gold Rush Days is a busy time here in Dahlonega. This year I gave most of my time to Friends of the Dahlonega Gold Museum. I created a float for them that gleaned 'BEST FLOAT'. We used a water cannon & shaker box from last year & the new museum model I build during the summer. As a dancer without a partner I have a bit of a problem. No place for my keys! I solved the problem for myself and now you can too! Take a look! Get it in my Zibbet shop and have the dancers in YOUR club colors! Don't miss the great tour in Dahlonega! The Friends of the Dahlonega Gold Museum has a tour of the town on Saturday nights. The tour is filled with great stories and lasts about 1 hr (or a little more). It is an easy walking tour that can easily accommodate wheelchairs/ strollers. COME JOIN US! |
