Joel Hitt is a Georgia Master Gardener, serving on the Georgia Master Gardeners’ Association Board as well as the Georgia Botanical Society Board and the Georgia Ornithological Society Board. He is a frequent speaker at Master Gardener training classes as well as garden clubs and botanical groups and a regular contributor of articles to the Georgia Mountain Laurel Magazine and the Georgia Master Gardener Association’s publication The Scoop. He is an avid gardener and bird watcher who enjoys sharing his experiences with other gardeners and bird enthusiasts around the Southeast. As a member of the Headwaters Master Gardeners, he is heavily involved in Rabun County’s Sustainable Mountain Living initiative which works to engage Rabun county residents in food gardening and providing food to the needy.
His topic, “The Curious Calling to Garden in the Woods” is the story of the adventure he and his wife have had trying to “live in the woods of Rabun County without interfering in the processes of nature while gardening in concert with nature and with respect for the forest.”
The Lumpkin County community is looking forward to Mr. Hitt’s presentation on gardening in the woods. Please join us for what promises to be an entertaining and informative evening.
