I really have to laugh. Most of the people I interact with do know that I am an artist. They occasionally ask me what I am currently working on or what my favorite medium is.
And then there are the special requests...
Like this one- a friend is part of an organization that wanted to give an appreciation award to a sweet potato farmer (or farmers). He thought it would be wonderful to have a trophy made with a sweet potato on top- so off he went to purchase an artificial sweet potato. Oddly, you can't buy a faux yam. Yes you can get all sorts of regular potatoes, onions, squash, peppers, carrots, & such... BUT NO SWEET POTATOES!!!!!!!!!

The shape was first carved from re-claimed styrofoam. It was then covered in paperclay, painted, & varnished.
